The Comox Valley welcomes three hundred (300) international students each year and offers a unique combination of landscapes and recreational opportunities. Where else can you ski all morning, kayak or golf in the afternoon, and attend a vibrant cultural event during the evening?

Comox Valley School District services the communities of Courtenay, Comox, and Cumberland which make up on Comox Valley region situated on the waterfront of eastern Vancouver Island. The Comox Valley is a short, two (2) hour picturesque drive from the BC Ferries terminal in Nanaimo or a quick thirty (30) minute flight from Vancouver to the Comox Valley International Airport (YQQ).

It is a safe and thriving community with all the modern requirements for everyday life including access to excellent medical and dental care, shopping, movie theatres and sports facilities.A plethora of outdoor activities and adventure also await students such as skiing, golfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, watersports, hiking, camping and whale watching.

Homestay

If you are looking for a true Canadian cultural experience filled with new activities, new foods and a welcoming Canadian family then a Comox Valley International Student Program homestay is for you.  Homestay families are an important part of your international student experience. Learn English in your home every day with English speaking parents, brothers and sisters.

The Comox Valley International Student Program homestay program is an internally run program which has operated since the inceptionof the international program. It is designed to maximize an international students experience and provide the required support for success. Our internally employed homestay coordinators, recruit, screen and orient homestay families ensuring a warm and supportive home setting.

High School Graduation
Program

The High School Graduation Program for international students who are serious about their education and academic future. Become fully integrated with Canadian students and teachers for several years (minimum of 2 years required) to complete your dogwood graduation certification requirements. All instruction is based on the British Columbia Public Schools Curriculum and includes English, Mathematics, Social Studies (Canadian history), Science, Physical Education and English as a second language if required.

Short Term High School Program

Are you looking for a traditional Canadian High School Experience without a long term commitment? If you have graduated high school in your own country and are seeking additional English language development before University or need a semester away during high school to study the short term high school program is for you. The program is available for a minimum of one (1) month and maximum ten (10) months, September to June annually and has you attending classes alongside Canadian students. 

Summer Program

The Comox Valley International Student Program offers a variety of opportunities for international students to study English during the Canadian summer (July and August).  International students will enjoy the wonderful west coast lifestyle and surroundings on Vancouver Island in a fun but focused learning environment.  Individual students and student groups from twelve (12) to eighteen (18) years old are eligible. A minimum of two (2) weeks of study is required and a maximum of eight (8) weeks of study are available every summer.  Every day of the summer program has a trip into the community or school based activity capitalizing on the instructional practice of learning English through meaningful events.

Explore Outdoor Education

Embark on a journey that will challenge you on a variety of different levels! EXPLORE is an integrated outdoor education program incorporating leadership, learning, and outdoor skills. It will require you to push yourself in many areas that you may not feel entirely comfortable, but through this experience you will grow. Students selected to the EXPLORE program will have numerous deliverables that require you to stretch your ability to take care of yourself and assist classmates when needed. EXPLORE is a team that relies on each other. Build memories and friendships that last a lifetime is this unique and rigorous specialized program.
