Lacrosse Academy at Delta Secondary, Delta, British Columbia
The Lacrosse Academy at Delta Secondary is an example of Delta’s commitment to offering choice programs that enable learners to engage in their passion during the school day.
- Open to males and females in Grades 8 – 12
- Two blocks in a student’s timetable; the blocks occur every other afternoon
- Delta students may attend Delta Secondary part-time to participate in the Lacrosse Academy. Bell schedules are similar at each secondary school in Delta; lunchtime provides time for students to move between schools to attend an academy at another school.
- Receive credit for PE at the appropriate grade, as well as, Science of Sport and Nutrition 10, or Superfit 11 -12
- Total of 8 credits per year toward graduation (Grade 10 -12)

(Ice) Hockey Academy - South Delta Secondary, Delta, British Columbia
The South Delta Secondary Hockey Academy provides students with a unique opportunity to work with outstanding professionals. This program takes place in conjunction with the Vancouver Giants and provides students with the best on and off ice training.
South Delta Hockey Academy Goals
To work in harmony with existing school and district goals to provide Hockey Academy students a positive learning environment from which to develop their athletic and academic potential. Specifically the goals are to:
- Nurture healthy attitudes and behaviours consistent with academic and athletic success
- Improve the skill level of every academy participant
- Enhance functional physical development through continuous fitness programming
- Maximize player understanding of team play
- Provide the student athlete and parent / guardian with evaluations of personal performance
- Increase students’ awareness of the benefits of nutrition on sport performance

Burnsview Hockey Academy Goals
To work in harmony with existing school and district goals to provide Hockey Academy students a positive learning environment from which to develop their athletic and academic potential. Specifically the goals are to:

- Improve the on-ice skill level of every academy participant

Facts about the Program
- Open to male and female students in Grades 8 – 12
- One block program, first or second block in the morning
- Delta students may attend Burnsview part-time to participate in the Hockey Academy. Students will have to take one other course at Burnsview on the morning they have hockey
- Provides on-ice training to beginner or advanced, competitive or recreational players
- Off-ice focuses on body co-ordination and skill development
- Students receive credit for PE 8 - 12

Soccer Academy at South Delta Secondary, Delta, British Columbia
The Soccer Academy at South Delta Secondary is an example of Delta’s commitment to offering choice programs that enable learners to engage in their passion during the school day.
Soccer Academy Goals
- To provide outstanding soccer instruction from qualified coaches/teachers.
- To improve students skill and fitness through a variety of cross training activities
- To provide sports science instruction including fitness, nutrition, strength training, sport physiology and mental training, utilizing a variety of experts.
- To provide opportunities for students to complete coaching, officiating and first aid certifications
Assessment and Evaluation
Students are evaluated each term in the areas of on-field and off-field performance. Letter grades will directly reflect individual student’s effort and attitude in the program. Skill development is an expectation for the course; separate evaluation tools will be used to communicate individual growth. Throughout the year three evaluations will be give; a September bench mark, a midpoint evaluation at the end of January and a final evaluation in June.

Baseball Academy at Sands Secondary School
- This academy is open to male and female students in Grades 8 – 12
- Two blocks in a student’s timetable
- Delta students may attend Sands Secondary part-time to participate in the Baseball Academy. (Bell schedules are similar at each secondary school in Delta; lunchtime provides time for students to move between schools to attend an academy at another school)
- Receive credit for PE at the appropriate grade and Superfit 10 -12
- Total of 8 credits per year toward graduation (Grade 10 -12)
- Facilities include Mackie Diamond, Mackie Turf field and Sands/Sungod gym facilities
Delta Softball Academy at both Delta Secondary and Seaquam Secondary
Delta Softball Academy Goals
- To work in harmony with existing school and district goals to provide Softball Academy students a positive learning environment from which to develop their athletic and academic potential. Specifically the goals are to:
- Nurture healthy attitudes and behaviours consistent with academic and athletic success
- Stress the importance of TEAM and how to be a great teammate
- Improve the skill level and softball IQ of every player
- Enhance functional physical development through the season and emphasize on these areas (post season) during the spring months.
- Maximize player understanding of team play
- Provide the student athlete and parent / guardian with evaluations of personal performance
- Increase students’ awareness of the benefits of nutrition on sport performance
Golf Academies at Seaquam Secondary, Delta Secondary and Siouth Delta Secondary
The golf academy is designed to provide students greater choices in meeting their learning goals and graduation requirements while offering the opportunity to develop and refine their golf related skills. The academy will offer student athletes a high performance golf program that gives them the opportunity to develop their potential and total game including: technique, golf course management, competition, physical fitness, and mental conditioning.
Students in the golf academy will:
- Receive high quality golf instruction by certified CPGA teaching professionals
- Continue to develop their potential and total game skills
- Learn the rules and etiquette of golf
- Receive high quality, golf specific, physical and mental training by certified trainers
- Continue to develop their personal golf and fitness levels
- Learn about sports nutrition and mental preparation for competition
- Network with golf professionals to achieve university scholarships
