Eaglesham School, Eaglesham, Alberta
In 1951, the Spirit River School Division borrowed money to build a centralized school at Eaglesham. Before that classes were taught at the Catholic church. The school opened for grades one to nine in September 1952. In 1954, a furnace room and two more classrooms were added. Four more classrooms and a gymnasium were added in 1958. Further additions included four more classrooms, a science room, a typing room and a library in 1962. As well, a pond and water supply and a sewage lagoon were constructed in the same year. This innovation allowed for the addition of showers and change rooms.
Peak enrolment occurred in 1967 with 390 students. Senior High was first included in Eaglesham in 1956 with the first Graduation of twelve students. In 1982 the Division received a class set of computers which traveled to the schools. In 1983, Eaglesham added their first computer room of 20 Apple IIe computers. This was the beginning of an excellent computer program. The school remains an active place in the community since division approval for public use in 1978.
