The Vancouver School Board (VSB) is a large, urban and multicultural school district providing programs to 55,500 students in kindergarten to Grade 12, and to over 3,000 adult students in adult education centres. The Vancouver School Board has 18 secondary schools and 91 elementary schools. It is our collective responsibility as a school district to ensure the highest quality of learning experiences for all students, with a focus on student engagement, learning and development in a safe, inclusive environment. The VSB offers a great variety of educational programs to students in a number of elementary, secondary, and adult settings. In addition, summer school is available to VSB students.
Vancouver is located in British Columbia province, on Canada's Pacific Ocean coast. Students have the chance to live in one of the most progressive, safe and beautiful cities in the world. Whistler ski resort is just one and a half hours away. Vancouver students enjoy outdoor sports at 3 local mountain resorts.
Homestay
International students may choose to participate in homestay with a local family while enrolled in a Vancouver public school. Students experience Canadian culture, customs, expectations in a safe, friendly host family program provided for over 20 years. There is a orientation information session. And custodianship is available, if requested. Students are supported and supervisised by homestay coordinator. Airport pickup is possible upon request

Study at the Vancouver school district
Year-long Study
Vancouver secondary schools offer a wide variety of excellent academic, fine arts, advanced placement, language and computer studies courses. Foundation (required) courses follow British Columbia provincial graduation requirements:
- English, English literature, communications
- social studies, history, geography
- mathematics
- biology, chemistry, physics, earth science
Elective courses include:
- band, strings orchestra, chorus, drama, dance, graphic arts, fashion design and more!
- French, Spanish, Japanese and Mandarin credit courses
- information technology, accounting, drafting and CAD credit courses
Students with strong academic achievement may study Advanced Placement courses in calculus, computer studies, literature, history and sciences at some schools. Students aged 18 and over may complete high school requirements at an adult school which offers academic credit courses leading to graduation.
Short term study
Vancouver schools are pleased to offer short study options, depending on available space and appropriate programs.
- minimum 3 months; must include either September or June
- fees are pro-rated per month
- limited spaces available during the school year
- students normally will not achieve academic credits because a full academic school year cannot be completed.
