The Dance Academy at Delta Secondary is an example of Delta’s commitment to offering choice programs that enable learners to engage in their passion during the school day.
Dance Academy Goals
- To foster a love for life long learning through dance
- To provide professional training in technique, choreography and performance
- To experience a variety of dance genres
- To provide individual and personal evaluations of technique, choreography and performance
- To encourage students to continually strive to improve their understanding of the social, cultural, personal and economic contexts of dance
- To encourage and enhance students’ appreciation of and passion for dance
- To expose students to career possibilities in the field of dance
Facts about the Program
- Admission by audition in the Spring
- Pre-requisites; 1. Serious, passionate attitude toward dance; 2. Strong technical base; jazz and ballet training
- Open to males and females in Grades 8 – 12
- Two consecutive 80-minute blocks within the 8-block student schedule; every other afternoon
- Instruction in core genres: Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary/Lyrical and Hip Hop
- Academy classes occur in the Genesis Theatre Dance Studio
- Field trips to professional dance company rehearsals, studios and dance performances
Equipment and Supplies
- Students will receive academy clothing; crop pants and a jacket
- Jazz and ballet – Students must supply their own fitted dancewear and ballet or jazz shoes
- Hip – Hop - Students must supply their own sweat pants and running shoes

Fees are divided over 10 monthly payments

Delta Film Acting Academy Goals
To work in harmony with existing school and district goals to provide Film Acting Academy students a positive learning environment from which to develop their artistic and academic potential. Specifically the goals are to:
- Improve the skill level of every actor through scene study, on-camera work and coaching
- Maximize actors understanding of the industry locally and internationally
- Nurture healthy attitudes and behaviours consistent with artistic success
- Enhance vocal & physical development through continuous movement, yoga & voice classes
- Provide the actor with personal performance evaluations
- Increase the awareness of the benefits of career management for success in the industry
- Make students industry ready as young professional actors

- Designed for male and female students in Grades 8 -12
- Students participate in two blocks of Film Acting every other afternoon
- Designed to accommodate students from all Delta secondary schools on a part-time basis

Delta Film Production Academy at the South Delta Secondary, Delta, British Columbia
The Delta Film Production Academy is designed for aspiring young film, television and documentary makers who are interested in learning the artistic and technical aspects of pre-production, production and post-production. Students will work with professionals in the local film industry to take a film from inception to distribution, learning not only the technical and artistic aspects of film making, but also garnering 21st century marketing skills through the use of social networking and new media.

- To explore and experience the creative and technical aspects of film-making.
- To learn the technical operation of a camera and begin to appreciate the artistic capability of this technology.
- To gain an understanding of the comprehensive nature of film making while taking a film through the pre-production, production and post-production stages of film making,
- To edit films using industry standard software.
- To appreciate and practice film industry etiquette.
- To gain appreciation for the local and international film industry.
- To recognize the value of and effectively use social networking as a means to distribute their films
