Class Afloat 30th Anniversary Voyage Sets Sail From Amsterdam Aboard Dutch Tall Ship

A crew of students from Canada’s esteemed experiential education programme, Class Afloat, is in Amsterdam to begin a life-changing school year aboard the majestic Dutch tall ship Gulden Leeuw.  For these students, the ship will be their home and classroom for the next 9 months. They will study a full academic program while sailing a tall ship to 17 ports of call on 4 continents, where they will participate in voluntary service projects, experience local cultural traditions and visit historic sites. 

This year’s itinerary includes 4 Atlantic Ocean crossings, sailing as far south as Buenos Aries and crossing to Cape Town, South Africa. See the whole itinerary here.

About Class Afloat and the Gulden Leeuw

The 230-foot long Class A ship Gulden Leeuw is a three-mast topsail schooner. The Dutch flagged ship has a classic design hull from 1937, but was completely redesigned and rebuilt in 2010 for sail training purposes. She sails with a professional mariner crew of seven. Nine months of the year, the Gulden Leeuw is a home and classroom for Class Afloat, a Canadian private school offering fully accredited senior high school and university programs while sailing to approximately 20 ports on four continents.
