Eco Academy at Sooke School District, Vancouver Island, Canada
The Edward Milne Community School ECO Academy is an innovative, semester-long program that explores scientific and social issues alongside skills associated with ecology, entrepreneurship, community, and experiential place-based learning. Grade 9 and 10 students actively participate in a full-day immersive interdisciplinary program, focused on the central themes of Eco-literacy, Community, Aboriginal Ways of Knowing, and Experiential Learning.

They earn credit in Science 9/10; Socials 9/10; Entrepreneurship and Marketing 10; Foods STX 10.
This first cohort of this program will take place September 2020- January 2021, 1st Semester, at Edward Milne Community School. Our school is surrounded by an incredible local community, and next to the ocean, forest and mountains.
ECO Academy will be a good fit for grade 9 and 10 students who enjoy learning in nature, working together to address real world issues, contributing to community, and learning through hands-on experience
The Cost
The ECO Academy Fee has been set at CAN$ 615 on top of the regular international school fee of CAN$ 12,675 for one semester in 2020-2021 and CAN$ 13,090 for one semester in 2021 - 2022. Scholarships will be available.
What does the learning environment look like?
In a usual week, students can expect to spend 60% of their time in a traditional learning environment (a classroom or lab). The remaining 40% will be actively integrated learning in a variety of settings; hiking forests and beaches, growing and preparing healthy and delicious food from a variety of cultures, working together in Community Service Learning, and combining this experience with deep academic inquiry.
