QUEEN MARGARET'S SCHOOL CANADA, WEST COAST LEARNING - NATURALLY
The cool autumn days are providing strong learning opportunities for students to explore our spacious campus, immerse themselves in nature and build compassion as our world continues to experience the challenges posed by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
QMS teachers are finding innovative ways to engage our students with the curriculum yet move the setting to our outdoor classroom. For Grade 10 science students, this shift to indoor/outdoor learning meant a blending of art and science as they explored cyanotype photographic printing using natural resources while students in the Grade 8-9 learning cohort hosted a special campfire social on-campus (photo above), complete with crackling fire, roasted marshmallows, hot chocolate and laughter.
The pre-engineering class has completed several design activities/competitions using simple materials. They have built truss bridges out of drinking straws to support weight, towers using spaghetti, paper airplanes to maximize flying distance and minimize drag, and experimented with falling devices that maximize drag while maintaining accuracy.
Art students are inspired by our impending 100 year birthday in 2021. A dedicated team of artists have researched cross-stitch patterns, methods, purpose, colours, symbolism and how to execute the right cross-stitch, readying themselves to commence an impressive undertaking. After Winter Break, they will begin hand-crafting a 100 panel cross-stitch quilt to celebrate our Centennial, a unique and beautiful honour to the School.
Fees 2020-2021 CAN$ 61,750 Regular International Boarding students
