Good news from Sooke Schools Victoria, Vancouver Island, British Columbia

We wanted to share some good news with you today: We have recently re-hired our Health and Wellness Coordinator, a position that has been vacant since the beginning of the pandemic. The intent of the position is to support the overall health and wellness of our international students -- whether they are having a difficult time adjusting to their new environment, experiencing periods of homesickness or culture shock, needing to navigate the medical system and need some extra assistance, needing to access external supports such as counselling, etc. We greatly missed this position while it was vacant, and are thrilled to have hired the newest member of our team!

Julissa started a few weeks ago, and has been busy getting to know our current students! Julissa was born in Mexico. She first came to Victoria in 2005 as an International Student in the company of her husband and her three children. Then, she became a permanent resident in 2012.

For four years, she worked for a non-profit organization supporting refugee and newcomer families to adjust and integrate into Canadian society. She has a passion for multiculturalism, wellness, and mental health.

In her spare time, she loves to run, do yoga, and take long walks in the company of her dog Vanilla.
